The League of Women Voters of Redding

Consensus Statement April 7, 1999

Following a study of the 1998-99 Redding Town Plan of Development, the League of Women Voters of Redding agreed...
  1. that elements of the Plan are overly prescriptive, and fail to take into consideration the authority and jurisdiction of the existing Boards and Commissions. The Plan would be strengthened if it focused on goals and objectives. Many of the specific recommendations could be listed in an appendix for future consideration.
  2. that regional planning and cooperation need greater emphasis throughout the plan.
  3. to support the authorization of funds not to exceed $5,000,000 for purchase of Open Space. The League also supports the authorization of funds not to exceed $2,500,000 for purchase of land for Active Recreation.
  4. that a period of study and public input should precede any formalization of the historic preservation process.
  5. to support the improvement of road safety consistent with the preservation of a rural environment.
  6. that the planning of public facility needs should be based on firm
    documentation.
  7. that the needs of Active Recreation can be met by using the same standards as other public facilities, and can be included in the chapter on Public Facilities and Utilities.
  8. that after the inventory of existing affordable housing is completed, action should be taken to comply with Connecticut law.
