League Communications

Listening Sessions

The LWVCT Board is looking for guidance on the direction the state League should take in the future, above and beyond the formal input you give us every second year on Program.  Are there things that LWVCT should be doing for your League that it’s not?  At the state level, are our priorities right?

Would your League or Board be willing to sit down with a current LWVCT Board member to discuss this?  If so, please contact the Hamden office.  We’ll send someone out to meet with you.

Newsletter Exchange

Would your League consider posting your newsletter/bulletin/Voter on the internet?  This would make it possible for other Leagues and for prospective members to see what you’re doing.  If you’re interested, in if you’re using the LWVCT’s web services, send your bulletin to lwvct@lwvct.org with instructions to post.  We’ll take care of the rest.

For those of you sending your bulletins/newsletters to the Hamden office in hard copy, switching to electronic distribution should save you money.  (If you want to send hard copy anyhow, one copy of each newsletter is sufficient – the days of needing more than that have passed.)

Calendars

Help!  The LWVCT master calendar has gotten woefully behind.  Please e-mail us your 2009-2010 schedule of activities, with special mention of upcoming debates and forums (and fundraisers, if you’d like participation by members of other Leagues).  We’ll post everything on our website.  Thanks!

90th Anniversary Activities

Historical Materials Available?

We’re still asking if you have any photos, documents, banners or other material we might be able to use in our display at the Capitol this coming January.  If so, please e-mail the Hamden office at lwvct@lwvct.org – we’re collecting things now.

Can You Help Us Find Items to Auction?

Do you have any questions about helping us find gift certificates and services to offer for our early-2010 90th Anniversary fund-raising auction?  Call or e-mail the Hamden office.

Election Laws Study

Study Reminder

As you all know by now, the LWVCT is undertaking a new state study on campaign-related issues.  The study is being chaired by Christine Horrigan and will cover:

1) procedures for certifying candidates for inclusion on the ballot,

2) the state election calendar timelines and

3) the examination of the methods for filling US senate vacancies.

Study group membership is open to any interested League member.  If you’d like to be on the study committee, please contact Christine Horrigan or Jean Rabinow.  The committee will begin meeting in September.

Public Issues Team Report

by the Public Issues Team Specialists

The September Public Issues Team Report is being postponed until after the budget implementer session On September 23 and 24.

Membership

Offering: Lapsed-Member Letters and Databases

The LWVCT office remains ready to help your League contact lapsed and inactive members – we can design a “please re-join” letter to your needs.  Interested?  Phone 203-288-7996 or e-mail lwvct@lwvct.org.

Don’t know who your lapsed members are?  The LWVCT database now goes back more than a decade.  We can send you a grid.

Working With the Membership Database

If you need help updating your League’s roster of officers or entering new members’ names into the LWVUS database, call or e-mail the LWVCT office.  We’ll be glad to help.  If you’re already experienced in using the US database, just drop Jean Rabinow an e-mail note when you make changes to your roster, so that we can keep the LWVCT database updated to match your local and LWVUS data.
