The League of
Women Voters is organized on three levels:
local, state and national. All levels have volunteer boards of directors. There are 50
state Leagues plus Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
LWVCT has 32 local Leagues with
over 2500 members. The
LWVCT office, located in Hamden, is staffed by Bill Maturo, Administrative
Director, and Jean
Rabinow, Administrative Assistant. Space and staff are shared with the LWVCT Education Fund. League members belong to the organization at all three levels. Local
Leagues
choose their own local boards and issues for study and action. Local delegates attend
state convention in odd-numbered years to choose board members and state issues for study
and action while local and state delegates attend the national (LWVUS) convention in even-numbered years to choose national
directors and programs.
On a state level, the LWVCT keeps members informed about the progress of new studies
and publishes
Impact on Issues
(pdf) which details positions which have
been adopted by the careful process of member study and consensus. Every year members
choose lobbying priorities from published positions. LWVCT lobbies for these issues during
the legislative session.
The LWVCT Education Fund operates the Citizens Service Bureau which publishes nonpartisan information on candidates and
issues. The League of Women Voters never supports or opposes candidates
or political parties.
