LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS HAMDEN - NORTH HAVEN
Membership
The League of Woman Voters works at the local, state and national levels. The organization's name, like its mission, derives from the proud legacy of the women's suffrage movement. Today's members are women and men; any citizen aged 18 or older can join. Members may join through any level of the League, and with membership comes the opportunity to work on local, state, regional and national public policy issues. Acting together, and only after careful consideration of the issues, LWV throughout the U.S. speaks out to influence government actions and has earned the respect of policy makers locally and nationwide. Your membership in LWV helps to influence the decisions that shape our community and the nation.
Through League email and other publications, you may keep up to date about public issues that are matters of concern to the League and to many thoughtful citizens. We appreciate your help at any time when you can give it, but we realize that active work for League may not always be possible. You should know that we still value your informed, intelligent support.
INTERESTED?
Please come to a meeting, learn more about what we are doing, and join us. When joining the Hamden-North Haven League, you simultaneously become a member of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut and the League of Women Voters of the United States. At all levels, members determine what the League's program and action will be.
Annual membership dues are $45.00 of which $40.30 is sent to LWV US and to LWV CT to support their programs. The remaining money is used by our local league to pay for direct local membership information materials like the Annual Report and Bulletins, as well as any special local activities or projects. With membership, you will receive the following publications: the National Voter, the State Voter, and the local Bulletin. If interested, you will also receive email updates on all League activities and minutes.
The Board of Directors meets once a month, usually the second Monday. Meetings are listed on the calendar at the LWV CT website http://www.lwvct.org; click on Hamden-North Haven under the Local Leagues listing. The League minutes are emailed to all members for whom we have email addresses. Board meetings are open and any interested member is welcome to attend. In addition, some general membership meetings are held throughout the year. These may be public information meetings such as a forum or a candidates' night, a legislative breakfast, group discussion of a study item, a consensus or concurrence meeting, or a social occasion for members to meet informally.
