February 26, 2008 Many League members made calls over the summer and fall 07 to repeal the law that allowed mining on water company land. Thanks to your actions, the law was repealed. However, our friends at CT Fund for the Environment are hearing that it might be back - unless we act now. Please take a few minutes to call. It will be the aides, not the legislator, who you will likely be speaking with but they will alert legislators about the number of calls. Water companies own forests that surround our reservoirs and act as a natural filter for our drinking water. How well we protect these forests has a direct impact on the purity of Connecticut's drinking water reservoirs. We are concerned that the legislative Public Health Committee will raise a bill allowing commercial mining in these very forests, thus putting in jeopardy Connecticut's drinking water. Additionally, the Committee may not consider a bill to increase protections for lands owned by the water companies, lands that are critical to safeguarding our drinking water. Please call Public Health Committee co-chair Senator Handley and co-chair Representative Sayers today and tell them:
PLEASE CALL RIGHT NOW
State Senator Mary Ann
Handley (800) 842-1420
