SENATE SUPPORT FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION
The League of Women Voters of Connecticut supported several mass transit proposals this year and in the previous sessions. On behalf of the more than 2,400 statewide members of the League, we urge you to add an additional $12.6 million to the operating and $43 million to the capital budgets in each of the next five fiscal years to increase the frequency, connectivity and quality of bus service.
Improvements in bus service reduce most immediately the congestion on our highways, a long-term goal of the League. In addition to reducing congestion, it also provides mobility to our most economically-challenged citizens who do not own cars and use bus service to get to jobs.
Thank you for your consideration. We appreciate your commitment to mass transit in general and bus service in particular.
