PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Public Hearing March 5, 2007

Support for Sections 7 and 8 of  S.B.1215, An Act Implementing A Process Of  State-Wide Responsible Growth

Comments submitted by Margaret Wirtenberg, Land Use Specialist

The League of Women Voters of Connecticut supports regional approaches to finding answers for many questions facing development officials in our cities and towns.  There is no one-size solution that fits all problems, however.

S.B.#1215 contains much that is worthy of support.  Specifically, "Regional Assets Districts" may be an idea whose day has finally come.  Voluntary agreements to support multi-town provision of government services abound in Connecticut today.  Communities increasingly combine efforts to respond to grave challenges here in the 21st century.

Thank you for listening to League, and thank you for your dedication to working together to make a better Connecticut.
