Dear Representative [X]:
The League of Women Voters of Connecticut urges your support for the DC Voting Rights Act. “No taxation without representation” was a rallying cry in the founding of our new nation centuries ago. Changing the law to enable ALL US Citizens to vote is long overdue. Your yes vote can ensure that we put an end to this unacceptable denial of the most basic tenet of our democracy. Congress can ensure that the democracy Americans have espoused and fought for across the globe becomes a reality in the nation’s capital.
As you are aware, the League believes in the informed and active participation of citizens in government. This bill provides voting representation in the House for DC citizens by increasing the size of the House by two seats – one for D.C. and the other for the state of Utah, which is entitled to the next seat by size of population. This balanced approach provides voting rights for District citizens without upsetting the partisan balance of the House.
Please vote yes on the DC Voting Rights Act.
