Working Together We Can Resurrect the Bottle Bill: Urgent action 5/18/07
May 18, 2007
Hello all -
The forces opposing the bottle bill have won for now – But you can help us turn it around if you get all the silent majority that support the bottle bill to speak up!
As mentioned in the last update, the House would be the bigger challenge. The House Screening committee did not send SB 1289 “the bottle bill” to the House despite all the overwhelmingly positive committee votes. Instead on May 15th , the bill was sent it to General Law where it was voted down 13-4. The link for the vote tally sheet is below in case you want to see if your legislators voted on it in General Law:

Our coalition partners are hard at work looking for ways to resurrect the bill and give it a new life. A vote against this bill is a vote for millions of taxpayer dollars to be spent on waste collection and shipment when a proven effective and efficient program has existed in CT for nearly three decades. Shouldn’t our limited public funds be spent on the many other issues facing our state like health care or transportation or education?
We hope you won't let this die without a continued fight. With your help, we can pass it THIS year. I will alert you as soon as I get a new bill number and/or more information. In meantime, contacting your legislators and House Speaker Amann to express your disappointment and urge that they do all in their power to resurrect it would be very helpful.
