LWVCT Urges Support for SB 40 AA Concerning Supportive Housing
The League of Women Voters of Connecticut urges implementation of the Governor’s budget recommendations as described in SB 40, and asks that full consideration be given to funding the additional 650 units necessary to meet the need throughout the state.
Community-based services rest on a foundation of safe places to live, with good access to supports such as case management and employment services. The struggle to recover from mental illness, or to reenter society from the criminal justice system as a citizen and family member is challenging. The first step toward overcoming the challenge is a secure home.
Supportive housing results in stronger communities, improves the quality of life for individuals and families at risk of homelessness, and saves the state money by avoiding costly institutionalizations. By creating additional supportive housing units, SB 40 will fill an urgent human service need.
