Meet the President!
Jara Burnett, President of the League of
Women Voters of Connecticut, will be in Brookfield
on Monday, March 24. Please come to a Pot Luck
Dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Marge Davidson's home to meet
Jara, find out more about the state and national
LWV, and ask her questions you have about the
League.
Among other issues, we
want to find out:
-
What are the local benefits we
receive for the dues moneys we send to state
and national LWV?
-
What help does the local League get
from the state LWV?
-
How relevant is the Brookfield LWV
to the state LWV? How relevant is the state
to Brookfield?
-
What is the budget of the state
LWV?
-
What is the size of the staff of
state LWV?
-
What insurance protection does the
state LWV provide for local chapters?
If there are other
matters that you would like to address, let Marge
know (775-3581 or
margedavidson@charter.net).
Please contact her by March 17 to let her
know if you can attend, and if you can bring a salad
or dessert. We look forward to seeing you then. |

Annual Scholarship
Applications for the annual LWV scholarship will
be available on the League's
web site
shortly. The scholarship is open to any
college-bound graduating senior who lives in
Brookfield. Applications will be due on May 1.
The topic of this year's essay is
voting. The questions to be answered are:
-
Do you think it's important
for Brookfield residents to vote on
local issues? Why or why not?
-
How can the League of Women
Voters make exercising their right and
privilege to vote a priority
for Brookfield residents? Who else
should take responsibility for getting
residents to register and vote? The
Town?
-
What ideas do you have that
might increase the percentage of
residents voting in local elections and
at local referendums?
